The OMO Modern Chair & Ottoman set itself apart with its unique properties. The design team utilized a patent-pending manufacturing method and an innovative memory foam-based design to create a piece of furniture that marries true comfort with modern design. The result is a memory foam furniture piece that is both visually appealing and extraordinarily comfortable.
The design realization of the OMO Modern Chair & Ottoman involves a new patent-pending manufacturing method. The design team used foam molds to form a solid core of rigid foam, creating a curved comfort design. This method is simpler and less costly than conventional furniture manufacturing, which typically involves a heavy wood or steel frame with added layers of upholstery.
Technical specifications of the design include the use of two different fabrics for upholstery. The orange fabric is 100% polyester twill, and the grey fabric is a Corn Lattice pattern made from 88% polyester and 12% Spandex. These fabrics contribute to the conforming nature of the memory foam. The chair measures 889mm in height and 914mm wide, with a seat-to-floor measurement of 432mm. The ottoman measures 482mm in height and 686mm wide.
The OMO Modern Chair & Ottoman was born out of extensive research and overcoming design challenges. The team conducted a clinical sleep study comparing two memory foam mattresses to a traditional coil spring mattress. The results confirmed that memory foam is an optimal pressure-relieving material. The team then faced the challenge of bringing this comfort to furniture, leading to the development of their unique manufacturing method.
The OMO Modern Chair & Ottoman has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2015. This award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
